Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Heavy overnight rains brought Salt Lake to a standstill on Friday, submerging roads and flooding homes across several blocks. From GC Block to EC Block and Shravani Awas, knee-deep water has made movement extremely difficult. In one alarming incident, a tree uprooted by the rain collapsed onto a house—but the residents narrowly escaped harm.
The situation worsened due to the area’s inadequate drainage system. Water from Thursday night’s torrential downpour has not been able to recede, causing persistent flooding in every locality of Salt Lake. Kaikhali, Haldiram, and Chinar Park also faced similar conditions with water reaching up to waist level in parts.
The stagnant water has disrupted daily life. Locals were forced to wade through dirty floodwaters to reach schools, offices, and hospitals. Meanwhile, vehicular movement slowed down considerably, with some vehicles breaking down mid-road.
Authorities have begun monitoring the situation, but no immediate relief measures were visible on the ground. Residents have voiced concerns over repeated neglect of urban drainage infrastructure in one of Kolkata’s most prominent townships.
